Patient Referral for Specimen Collections
Patients can be referred to any of our Laboratory Service Centers with a written physician order for specimen collection and clinical laboratory testing.
Appointments need to be made for the following tests Glucose Tolerance, Sweat Chloride and EKG’s at certain locations. To schedule an appointment, contact the Laboratory Service Center directly or Central Scheduling (614) 722-6200.
Laboratory Services will provide test requisitions for clinical laboratory specimens and anatomic pathology specimens collected at a physician’s office, hospital or an outpatient surgery center. Please contact Client Services to request requisitions or set up on our online ordering system, ChildLinkTM.

Provider to Provider Consult
Our experienced Pediatric Pathologists and Doctoral Scientists are available for consultation on both Clinical and Anatomic Pathology. Please contact Laboratory Client Services: (614) 722-5477 or (800) 934-6575.
Second Opinions and Anatomic Pathology Specimen Referral
We accept specimens, tissue blocks and histologic slides for primary diagnosis or second opinions. We offer histopathology, electron microscopy, enzyme histochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and special staining.
To request a pathology consultation, please follow these steps:
- Complete Pathology Consultation Requisition
- If the specimen has been previously reviewed, send the previous pathology report

Genetic Counseling Services for Genetic Test Selection
Comprehensive counseling is provided both for providers and patients. Our team of pediatric, board certified, Genetic Counselors can assist in case review, appropriate test selection, result interpretation and follow up recommendations. CareLinksTM is a free web-based access to patient electronic medical records. Community providers can see scheduled appointments, view patient medical records and receive automatic notification of patient activity at Nationwide Children’s.

Nationwide Children’s Laboratory Services has successfully setup interfaces to send lab results and/or receive orders electronically with any EHR system that can accommodate a lab interface. We have live interfaces with Allscripts, Aprima, Athena, Centricity, eClinicalWorks, ElationEMR, Greenway, HealthBridge, McKesson, Med3000, ModuleMD, NextGen and Practice Fusion.
